Mothership Sighting...

Funk-shift-165  The MOTHERSHIP has been sighted on the outskirts of Cardiff getting the Ground Crew ready to Deploy the Funk the the Globe this SAT ... get down there and GET DOWN ... Well Alright Starchild =)!!

This saturday sees the full launch if the Zillorecords Funsk shift as well as new Zillorecords band Monkjack, all at the Globe, Albany Road, Cardiff.

Headed by the eponimous Funk Sheriff (AKA Jason Rogers of Zillo and The Arc of Stars) Monkjack are 7 highclass funk musicians, many of whom were part of the original Mongoose Funk band of Ronnie Scot's fame. With horns, drums, guitars and The Sheriff on Bass they will blow you away and get your booty shakin' whether you like it or not! Once the band have exhausted themselves there won't be a let up for you Funk Shifters as The Funk Sheriff will hot foot it to the decks for some authentic and historic grooves. Definitely time to get down with your bad selves!

Doors open at 7:30 with music starting around 8:30, entry is a mere £5 - nothing for a return ticket to the Mothership!

March Gigs

2009 has already been a bumper year for Zillo, and March is no exception. We'll be saying goodbye to Mad hairs, international rugby and hopefully the winter, but do not despair. March will be saying its final farewell with a weekend full of Zillo wonders.

Saturday 28th March sees a second FUNK SHIFT and it is set to be as good as the last (which was phat!) The Funk Sheriff will once again be overseeing an evening of groove and beats like Cardiff has never seen (at least since the seventies!). For one night only The Sheriff and his deputies have invited Barry based funk band DANSETTE to get down, get on and get groovin'! The Funk Shift takes place once a month at The Globe, Albany Road, Cardiff and is promoted by Zillo Records. Doors open at 7:30pm and entry is £5 on the door.

After all that and you've all had a lie in, eaten your Sunday lunches and are ready for something chilled out for the evening on Sunday 29th March head on down to Cafe Jazz to see THE ARC OF STARS at the weekly ACOUSTIC SHIFT. Jas and Simeon will be caressing their guitars and soothing your ears with some of their own, unique chilled out sounds. Cafe Jazz is on St Mary's Street, Cardiff and entry is a mere snip at £2 on the door.

Monkjack lift off on the Mothership!

Last night (Saturday 21st February) saw the debut of new Cardiff Funksters Monkjack, and what a debut it was. The crowd got going with a phat set on the decks by Deputy Daf Wiliam, until The Globe, Albany Road, Cardiff was full to the rafters. Once they had been worked into a frenzy, the funksters themselves hit the stage and, led by the Funk Sheriff himself, Mr Jason Rogers, Monkjack ripped it up with some well known funk classics (pass them peas) and some lesser known grooves. With horns, keys, percussion, drums, guitar and, of course, The Sheriff on bass it was a full blown funkfest. By just the second song the crowd had hit the dancefloor and were getting down with their bad selves like it was going out of fashion. The night continued with Cardiff funksters doin' it groovin' it all night long.

Here as Zillorecords we would like to thank everyone for coming along and everyone at The Globe for making it a fab night. The Mothership will next be landing at The Globe for a second Funk Shift on 28th March, so get you glitter out, your groove on and get on down.

Latin Lovers!

The first Latin Shift at The Globe, Cardiff was such a massive success with over 230 people turning up to get down to the sounds of Cuba, Brazil and the Latin Quarter that an extra Latin Shift has been planned for this Friday, 13th February (unlucky for some but not for you lucky Zilloists!)

This Latin Shift will be led by the Cardiff based Latin Journey, formerly Liquid Latin. Sugardog will once again get on the decks and you can dance the night away to some of the latest in Latin grooves.

The doors will open at around 7:30, with the music starting a little later - give you chance to warm up. Door entry is still to be confirmed, but will be more than reasonable for the quality of the music. The Globe has a fully stocked bar and friendly bar staff, so get your glad rags and dancing shoes on and come and shake it all night long!

Acoustic Shift Back in Cafe Jazz!

N43568453546_186This Sunday 1st February will see the return of the Acoustic Shift to Cafe Jazz, St Mary's Street, Cardiff. After the success of the Acoustic Shifts in 2008 we're all looking forward to their return, and how better to kick off than with Zillo's own The Arc of Stars (see artists on this page for more info) and Cardiff favourites, The Whistling Biscuits. There will be a number of special guest musicians as well, so get down and have a chilled Sunday evening in Cardiff's Jazziest venue.

The music will start around 8:30pm and there is a £2 entry charge. A bar serving wines, beers, spirits and hot drinks is available.

Launch of the Latin Shift

The first Zillo Latin Shift will take place on Saturday January 31st. N61495710927_3795

At new Cardiff Venue The Globe, the latest in Latin sounds will be happening once a month, bringing hot and spicy Cuban, Brazilian and Latin outfits from all over Wales and beyond, making this is the only place to be or be seen.

The Latin Shift will kick of with a night of fiery Latin Jazz grooves by Wales’ top outfit THE BUENA RISCA SOCIAL CLWB, playing traditional Cuban styles with some of the hottest Jazz tunes in town.
This 8 piece group is a must see with a horn section as tight as they come - just make sure you’re at the front. DJs will then spin the night with some smooth and fiery Latin sounds too.

Doors open around 7pm, with music starting at around 8:30pm. Entry is Five pounds on the door. There is a fully stocked bar and cloackroom available.

Change of Date for Acoustic Shift @ Cafe Jazz

Due to a large football match and the ensuing throng around Cardiff expected on Sunday night, the first Acoustic Shift @ Cafe Jazz of 2009 will now happen on Sunday evening, 1st February. The night will be the same, however, with chilled acoustic original material from some of Cardiff's favourite musicians, so pop it in your diary and come on down for a relaxed Sunday evening of music and pals. £2 on the door, music starts around 8:30(ish). Lineup tbc.

Thursday 15th January saw a fantastic evening of music as the Acoustic Shift literally shifted to The Globe on Albany Road in Cardiff.

The night started around 8:30 with a fantastic set from folk duo Amber Hour, and around 9:30 Arc of Stars took the stage. Jas played a few chilled out solo songs, and as the set went on the band just grew andgrew until for a final rendition of 'Peace is in my Soul' no less than9 fabulous Cardiff stalwarts on had taken to the stage; Sadie Finch -Flute, Ade Wiggins - Percussion, Dan Pressley - Drums, Nick Walker -Bass, Tom Jackson - Sax, Dave and Owen from the Biscuits on backing vocals and special guest star Viv Locke on Guitar. For those that were there, it was a mind blowing experience to be in a room with such exquisite sounds and so many great musicians.

The Whistling Biscuits then went on to finish the night with an inspiring set of songs, including a brief blast of 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air'! A great night had by all and I know many Cardiffians who can't wait for the next one.

The Globe provided a fantastic venue for an evening of great music and we are all looking forward to the next Zillo Shifts hosted there: Funk Shift 24th January & Latin Shift 31st January!

... and a Happy New Year!

Wow! 2008 saw some amazing developments here at Zillo Towers. We went fully digital with Zillo, Arc of Stars and Echolounge albums all making their way onto iTunes and other catalogues. The Acoustic shift went from strength to strength at Cafe Jazz on a Sunday night and saw some fab chilled out sets from Jass, Arc of Stars and friends. Zillo even got staff!

And 2009 is set to be an even bigger year! Arc of Stars are currently working on their next album 'West Coast Songs', and Zillo have three new albums in the pipeline (three, thats right, its a veritable hot spot of ambient chilledness!)

The acoustic shift is set to continue, and will soon be gaining some siblings as Jass returns to his role as the 'Funk Sheriff' with the Funk Shift, and get Cardiff's booties going with the Latin Shift. In conjunction with Cardiff's new exciting venue The Globe. We may even be seeing Jass more regularly at Cafe Jazz.

So, keep an eye out for updates, news and blogs and check us out on Twitter. Laters!
